Worst
journey

|
Mali.
Bamako- Mopti: 10h, night bus |
|
The bus was crowded like the hell, besides
there was no room for the legs and I was sweating so much
that I took off the Tshirt (read the story).
|
| 2 |
India. Leh- Manali: 2 days (19h
+ 7h), bus |
|
The altitude knocked me down
(5300 m) althought the amazing landscape.
In addition it was so bumpy I was getting mad (read)
|
| 3 |
Uzbekistan.
Samarcanda- Khiva: 14h, night bus |
|
Although being night it was so hot and an
idiot fell asleep leaned on me; I spent the night pushing
him away.
|
Worst
accommodation
|
1
|
Mali. Kayes,
Hostel de la jeunesse, |
|
The room was so lousy I didn't
even dare to take off the shoes and I was disgusted even
laying on the bed. In addition the bathroom was one of the
worst I've never seen.
|
| 2 |
Iran. Hamadam (??) |
|
It was so luosy that the owner
asked me why I wanted to stayed in his place. Besides the
dirtiness I still remember the shit stink everywhere.
|
| 3 |
India, New Delhi,
guesthouse Nuvraga |
|
I
didn't sleep there, but the shower, namely a hole in the
wall, had been enough to rank it among the top three
|
Worst
climate
|
1
|
Sweden. End of July in
Stockholm arcipelago Rain for 8 days with 15C!! |
|
I had been kayaking in the arcipelago sleeping
in the tent for 8 days under the rain. It was just 15 C
and everything I had it was wet!
|
| 2 |
Mali. Mid of august in Kayes
hot like the hell |
|
It was so hot I couldn't even walk around,
in addition the place itself didnt help to put up with it
|
| 3 |
India. End of August in Kolkata
101% humid!! |
|
It had been the first time in my travels I
took an A/C room; the humidity was really unbearable and
most of the time I was showering. |
Worst
situation
|
1
|
Pakistan, near Gilgit |
|
I was on a minibus blocked by an islamic protest
against "the West"; around me people freaked out
burning American flags
|
| 2 |
Iran, Hamadam |
|
Inside a car after I got a lift. One of the
two guys on, claimed to be a policeman and wanted to see
my money. I reacted agressively...
|
| 3 |
Cambodia, near Stung Treng |
|
I tried to bypass the local mafia who managed
the boats, paying a fisherman for the lift even being warned
not to do it. They caught us and they wanted to beat up
fisherman |
Worst
border crossing
|
1
|
Iraq to Turkey near Dohuk |
|
Turkish guards couldn't accept that somebody
wanted travel in Iraq, my passport was a little worn out
and almost full. They really didn't want me to pass through:
it took 4 hours
|
| 2 |
Poland to Czech near Ostrava: night on the train
|
|
The militar was sure my ID was fake and I
wasn't Italian. I got interwied, showed my signature and
I spoke them italian to convince them. At the end
the whole train delayed 20 minutes becuase of this
|
| 3 |
Bosnia to Montenegro. Unknown
place; night on bus |
|
It seems for the border guards it wasn't possible
an Italian wanted to enter Kosovo to travel in, and they
didn't know if it was allowed. (read)
|
Worst food
|
1
|
Siberia
(Asian Russia) |
|
Tasteless
soups and bad fish will make you to miss any other cousine.
Meals on the train are the very bottom end
|
| 2 |
Rwanda
|
|
Simply there's nothing to
eat except a kind of potatoes-like bananas. If you order
the meat you'll lick the bones
|
| 3 |
Belarus
|
|
The boorish and rough service certainly didn't
help me to enjoy the crappy food |
The
highest point
|
A pass in Laddakh (India) between
Leh and Manali; it was 5364 m. By the way,
it has also been the second worst travel I've ever done
(see above). This pass is the second highest in the world.
|
The
lowest point
|
Dead Sea depression in Israel: -400 m below
sea level; by the way it's the lowest area on the earth..
|
The
coldest point
|
The town of Uland Ude in Siberia (Asian
Russia) got to -34C: it was at the end of December, and
we were waiting for the bus aside the road
|
The
northernmost point
|
Narvik (Norway): not far from the northenmost
tip of Europe (North Cape)
|
The
southernmost point
|
Punta Arenas (Patagonia, Chile), a town
not far from the southernmost tip of America (Cape Horn)
|
The longest travel
leg
|
From Irkutsk to Vladivostok in the Siberia
(Asian Russia) by the transiberian train in 3rd class:
72 hours, namely 3 days and 3 nights without any stopover.
Just got off twice for 10 minuts looking for some food
